Company History
Mr. Bill Merg, born and educated in Germany, studied manufacturing engineering while also becoming a master fly tyer. He developed the Rite™ Bobbin in 1991, and after spending several years perfecting the design, Bill (along with his wife Eva), launched Merco Products in Sunnyvale, California in 1993.
The bobbins enjoyed rapid worldwide success and continued growth right up to when the Mergs wanted to retire in July of 2006. They sold the company to Lyle Graff, and helped him move the business to the banks of the Stillwater River in the small town of Nye, Montana. Merco Products continues to thrive under the stewardship of Lyle and his son Justin. Together they enjoy the added benefit of being able to test the flies their bobbins produce on some of the best trout streams in the world.
Today, the Rite Bobbin brand continues its steady growth under the shrewd direction of Justin Graff. Graff, a former Montana fishing guide, has strategically relocated the business to the heart of Montana fishing country: Bozeman, Montana. Graff also recently made the shift from being a guide to outfitting full time- bringing an extensive knowledge base with him to his outfitting business, Rite Guides. Rite Guides is a premier outfitting operation based out of Bozeman, Montana.
